Маукор state technological university was set up by the Russian Federation governmental order 
from December, 13th, 1993 № 1279. Since 1994 it carries out educational activity in sphere of higher and secondary professional education. In 1998 a branch of the university in settlement Jablonovskij, Republic Adyghea, was opened, and in 2000 - a representative office in Adygejsk. Since 1999 MSTU has been included into Association of high schools of St-Petersburg. In 2003 MSTU was included in the official list of educational establishments of the Russian Federation carrying out pre-college training of foreign citizens. The university is a member of Association of technical colleges of the North-Caucasian region and Association of building high schools of Russia. On February 11th 2004 the university obtained the state accreditation with an establishment of the state accreditation status as "a higher educational institution" type of "university" and was renamed by the order of the Russian Ministry of Education from 25.03.2004 №8 into a state educational establishment of the higher professional education "Maykop state technological university". In February, 2005 MSTU obtained certification on the basis of the results of a complex estimation of its activity and was accredited for the period of the next 5 years.
Now Maykop state technological university is a large educational and research center of the federal value. It unites over 11,5 thousand students, post-graduate students, teachers and employees engaged in the educational process under the high school and secondary school professional programs, programs of a professional training of the top skills, retraining and improvement of qualifications, programs of additional pupil training.
MSTU has obtained the license to conduct educational activity for 70 educational programs, branches and fields, including 12 programs of secondary professional education, 21 specialties of postgraduate study and 5 specialties of doctoral studies. There are two specialized academic boards on protection of master's theses on agricultural, biological and economic specialties.
The structure of university includes 10 faculties and medical institute. Following faculties: technological, engineering-economic, ecological, financial-economic and faculties of agrarian technologies, new social technologies, management, information systems in economy and jurisprudence, international education and secondary professional education train qualified experts on the most demanded specialties in the region: Technology of fermentive manufactures and winemaking", "Machines and devices of food", Technology of garments", Technology of manufacture and processing of agricultural production", "Land management", "Social service and tourism", "Forestry", "Environment preservation and rational use of natural resources".
To satisfy the needs of the region the following specialties: "Organization and safety of traffic (motor transport)", "Customs", "Anti-recessionary management", "Landscape gardening and landscape construction", "Oil-and-gas business", "Fire safety", "Industrial and civil construction", "City construction and facilities" were introduced in the period of 2003-2006 years.
 Two faculties of medical institute medical and pharmaceutical train experts on specialties "Medicine" and "Pharmacy". The most demanded specialties of the secondary professional education in the region are “Technology of timber processing", “Tourism", "Mechanization of agriculture", "Construction and operation of buildings and constructions", "Veterinary science". 
 Educational process at the university is carried out by highly skilled experts. Today there are 84 doctors of sciences and 291 candidates of sciences (PhDs) at the university. Teachers with scientific degrees and ranks make over 70% of the staff. Various directions of international cooperation are actively developed in MSTU. Since 1995 the university is a member of the complex international program "Integration", in 1997 it was accepted in the International association of universities at UNESCO, since 1999 is a member of the International Association of automobile and road education.
In 1998 the International Biographic center in Cambridge (England) announced the rector of MSTU A.K. Thakushinov “Person of the Year” in the field of education in the world. Cooperation agreements with Berlin, Dresden, Hanover and Munich universities on joint scientific researches and teachers' and students' exchange programs were reached several last years. Since 1998 the university has carried out international scientific conferences: "Merged ground: genesis, origin", "Actual problems of ecology in conditions of the modern world", Tourism in mountain regions: a way to steady development?". There is UNESCO club 'Adyghea' at the university. Within the students' exchange programs students of the university took part in the international projects: “Biospheric reserves of Germany”, "Clearing constructions of Germany”, and the international scientific expedition on revival of "old Circassian gardens". In 2003 scientists of the university won two international grants within the European program TEMPUS "Education as a basis of steady wildlife management" and R.H. MacArthur and E.O. Wilson fund.
Within the framework of project TEMPUS in April, 2004 the international seminar in engineering biology was held on the basis of MSTU, and the laboratory of engineering biology and landscape designing was created. There are 198 students from 25 countries trained at the faculty of international education of MSTU.
Today the scientific fields developed at the university are of significant interest for the development of the economy of the region and Russia as a whole. They include researches of processes of formation and regulation of market economy in the Republic Adyghea; steady development of mountain and foothill areas of the RA; biology, selection and cultivation of new grades of fruit crops, Kuril tea; analysis and development of the forecasted agricultural production in the region up to 2010; works on studying recreational potential and tourist resources of the RA and the target program of tourism development in the region; works in the field of manufacturing organic mineral fertilizers, biogas; preservation of old "Circassian gardens"; entering of natural objects into the list of World natural and a cultural heritage of UNESCO.
They consider in MSTU, that a modern university plays a special role in the development of scientific, industrial and cultural relations in the society. Development and introduction of system of innovative education, integration of education, scientific researches and manufactures, flexible reaction to requirements of a labour market, preparation of qualified professionals under the regional and branch order, considering the interests of enterprises and consumers, transition to multilevel education are the prospects of development of MSTU as a regional center of science, education and culture. Among the major and priorities there is an output of university on qualitatively new level of scientific researches and volumes of external financing of research works; an output on the international market of educational services; development of material base and a information supply of educational process; development of system of academic boards; support of the demanded of graduates on regional, federal and international labour markets.
For the last years over 9,5 thousand of highly skilled experts have graduated from MSTU - young talented scientists who successfully work in the fields of industrial production, sciences, education and social activity in different corners of Russia and abroad. In 2004 Maykop state technological university was awarded a medal of "Glory of Adyghea" for special merits in training highly skilled experts and scientific staff, significant contribution to development of higher technical education of the Republic Adyghea.
We aspire that Maykop state technological university will take lead positions among innovative high schools of Russia, become a basis of social and economic potential of the Republic Adyghea, a source of high technologies and highly qualified staff.
